Install_M-Audio_Axiom_AIR_Mini_32_Windows_1_0_1.zip But the MPK25 does look nicer.Support Driver Downloads Driver Information Driver If cost is taken into account, and the calculation done on the basis of features for the money, I'd say that the Axiom 25 is ahead of the MPK25. Vista gives each MIDI controller a more distinctive identifier within Live's preferences.Īnd the MPK25 is, of course, quite a bit more expensive than the Axiom 25. This issue doesn't crop up in a Windows Vista system, by the way. As a consequence of this, I've had to start using my MPK25 with my laptop setup when I'd actually intended it for my desktop computer alongside the APC40. I own an APC40 as well, and I've discovered that Live 8 loses track of which controller is which if two Akais are used simultaneously and frequently doesn't recognise either as connected. I've also had issues using two Akai controllers at the same time, at least in Windows XP. I've found that my DAW, mainly Live but I have used others, doesn't always recognise an Akai controller as present until it's been disconnected and reconnected again, whereas the Axiom is always recognised as connected. One issue I have experienced with some Akai MIDI controllers - and I've owned a few - is their lack of an on/off switch. The Axiom, however, does have a loop button and it's really handy to have that setting immediately available via the transport controls rather than having to use the mouse. This is true of all their MPK and MPD controllers. I find Akai's decision not to include a loop button in the transport controls rather puzzling. That can be re-programmed, of course, but it's a pain to do that. If you're using them to play drum kits - Ableton Session Drums, NI Kontakt or whatever - I suspect you'll find that eight is rather limiting and sometimes a sound you actually want to trigger isn't immediately available, whereas it'll probably be covered by having 12 pads. The MPK has 12 pads compared with the Axiom's eight. The built-in presets/templates do the job without the need for tedious fiddling with configurations. But that's because it has lots of knobs and such like.īoth work seamlessly with Live 8. The MPK feels very heavy and takes up a little more space than you'd expect of a 25-key controller. Both have a solid build but I suspect that the Axiom would survive accidents more often. In truth, though, there's not a lot to choose between them. The Axiom is currently in a cupboard, whereas the MPK is used regularly.
